TIPS & TRICKS

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for tiny podcasts with big ideas! Two minutes isn’t long, so make something that will hit us between the ears from the start. Your entry can be on any topic and in any style, as long as it is original and meets our submission guidelines. It can be a condensed version of an existing podcast, a teaser for a longer episode, or a snappy show. Check out some examples below for inspo – or even better, just get recording!

FAQs

How do I enter?

Head to the ‘How To Enter’ page for all the details.

What language should my entry be in?

Submissions must either be in English or Chinese. Unfortunately, we are not accepting any other languages this year. Of course, this isn’t ideal – we’re a diverse bunch at RØDE, but we do not currently have the capacity to fairly and efficiently judge entries in any other languages. If English or Chinese is not your first language, don’t worry, your podcast won’t be judged any differently!

How long should my podcast be?

Your podcast must be between 1–2 minutes long. If it’s any shorter or longer, your entry will be rejected, and you’ll have to either cut it down or make it longer. This is part of the challenge! Make a short podcast that makes us hungry for more.

What format should my podcast be?

Your podcast needs to be a single stereo file and either a MP3 or WAV.

Can I enter multiple times?

Yes. You can enter as many times as you like. Once you register for an account, you can submit multiple podcasts via the online portal. These will all be visible in the ‘My Entries’ section of your account.

What am I being judged on?

We’ll be looking for podcasts that are creative, original, engaging, and leave us wanting more; we’ll also be judging the production of each podcast – audio quality, editing skills, use of music and sound effects, flow and delivery.

How does the judging work?
This year, we have a panel of podcasting heavyweights from different corners of the industry who will be deciding on the Major Prize winner and Runner Up. These three judges will be choosing the winners from a shortlist selected by the RØDE team.
How does the People’s Choice voting work?

Once your podcast has been uploaded and moderated, it will appear on the ‘Listen’ page. Here you can copy a link to your podcast and share it around. Your friends, family and fans can vote for your podcast by hitting the heart button. The podcast with the most votes wins the People's Choice prize. Simple!

What should my podcast be about?

Your podcast can be on anything! We’re just looking for something that is creative, sounds great, and leaves us wanting more. Your podcast can be on any topic imaginable and in any style – a talk show, a documentary, an interview, a fiction show, a hybrid – whatever, as long as it meets our submission guidelines. It can be a condensed version of an existing podcast, a teaser for a longer episode, or a snappy show.

Why do I have to upload my podcast to Anchor?

Anchor is this year’s official My RØDE Cast hosting platform. Entries need to be uploaded to Anchor before being submitted to My RØDE Cast. This is where all of the podcasts will live and be streamed from throughout the competition. They will also be available on the My RØDE Cast ‘Listen’ page after they have been submitted.

How do I upload my podcast to Anchor?

Uploading your podcast to Anchor is very simple. Take a look at this detailed guide for a step-by-step walkthrough.

My entry was rejected. Why was this?

All entries must be between 1–2 minutes long. If an entry is longer or shorter, it will be rejected. RØDE also reserves the right to reject any entry that defames any person or entity, or is disparaging to any religion, race, or nation, or contains language that is lewd, obscene or inappropriate, or uses any copyrights, marks, trademarks. Please read the terms and conditions before entering My RØDE Cast.
